THINK YOUR HELMET DOESN'T MATTER?

A study published in the American Journal of Public Health in August 2008 showed that after the helmet law was repealed in Pennsylvania, motorcycle-related head injury deaths increased 66%, while nonhead injury deaths increased 25%.  Motorcycle-related head injury hospitalizations increased 78% compared with 28% for nonhead injury hospitalizations.  Total acute care hospital charges for motorcycle-related head injuries increased 132% compared with a 69% increase for nonhead injuries.  The number of head injured hospitalized motorcyclists requiring further care at other facilities, largely for

rehabilitation and long-term care, increased 87%, compared with a 16%

increase for nonhead injured hospitalized motorcyclists.

If you think this information pertains to just motorcycles, think again!
